Hello! Who are you and what remote business did you start?
My name is Lidiya and back in 2013 I started a website called Let’s Reach Success. 11 years later, it’s the foundation of my business, which allows me to live anywhere in the world.
I’m a blogger, course creator, podcast host and author and I teach people how to create an abundant business so they can be financially free, become their most ambitious self and serve their purpose. I combine personal, spiritual and business growth to help them do what they love and turn it into their career, with a focus on building a blogging business that can last forever.
What’s your personal history and the inspiration for your business?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve dreamed about having freedom and independence, a project of my own, a way to leave my home country (Bulgaria) and live life on my own terms.
I combined my passion for personal growth with writing (the best way to express myself) and started a hobby blog over 10 years ago. I just wanted to share my message, track my progress and write. Then it started getting traction and I began dreaming bigger. I learned about the blogging business model and started monetizing my platform strategically.
I made my first money thanks to freelancing, but a few years later I replaced that with my blog income. Since then, I started covering more topics such as business, lifestyle design, finance, etc. and I grew the website. I also started teaching others how to do the same if that feels like the right business model for them, because I truly believe in it and its earning potential as well as the lifestyle and level of satisfaction it can provide.
To start a business, and to stay in business, you need to really, really want it. To have strong enough reasons to overcome the discomfort, experience imposter syndrome daily, deal with all kinds of challenges, feel like a failure more times than you can count, and keep going no matter what.
For me, the reasons were many. I wanted the freedom to work on whatever I want and to not be told what to do, I wanted to improve my lifestyle, learn business and then create content about it, I wanted to help people and empower them to take more action to change their lives, as well as overcome the limiting beliefs that are keeping them stuck.
I also wanted to leave my home country and move to my favorite one (the Netherlands). That happened thanks to my remote business and I haven’t looked back (it’s been over 8 years since I moved).
Describe the process of launching your remote business.
Since its creation, my company has been a solo adventure. As it’s a small business, I still like to keep it this way. It has always been remote. I’ve run the business in 2 countries so far and it’s interesting to see how different that can be, even though they are both in the European Union. Still, relocating and moving your business with you can empower you and make you realize that you can do that anywhere else if you want to move again.
I also chose one of the easiest business models to start – no need for initial capital, degree, connections, or even previous experience. You just start a website, have a message to share with the world, and create content consistently and learn as you go.
It hasn’t been easy, and it took way too long to see progress, but in the big scheme of events, that doesn’t matter. The vision has always been there and it evolves with me, so time is not a factor.
What has worked to attract customers and earn their loyalty?
I’ve tested many platforms to promote my content, get blog traffic, find clients, and sell digital products. Ultimately, it comes down not to what’s working for everyone else, but what I can stay consistent with and am excited about. That’s the blog, the email list, Pinterest, and the podcast,
I don’t actually use social media for my business (Pinterest isn’t really a social channel) and I think that’s one thing that makes me stand out in the industry. It’s also how I teach blogging. I love reminding bloggers that if they don’t want to be on Instagram and Facebook and TikTok, they don’t need to be. There are ways to grow your blog traffic and income without it, and it can actually cost you more if it’s just draining you instead of giving you energy.
You can use search engine optimization, create great content on your blog and optimize it, and keep updating it and interlinking it well so it can rank and bring you organic traffic.
You can share your content on Pinterest and bring traffic even to a new blog.
You can grow your email list and form real relationships with the people on it.
You can also test different platforms for selling digital products, such as Etsy and Shopify or a course hosting platform like Podia (that’s what I’m using now) or Teachable.
Having a podcast allows you to also have listeners and grow your audience in a different way, but that’s only if you enjoy creating audio content and will actually stick to publishing episodes consistently.
It’s important to test different platforms, content formats and content marketing strategies to see what works best for you and your audience.
Knowing what you know now, are there things you would have done differently when first starting out?
I do a lot of mindset work. One specific perspective that’s important for me to have is that I always did the best I could with the resources I had. Everything i do in business either gives me the result I want or the lesson I needed, as my mentor James Wedmore likes to say.
But here are some things that could have helped me reach my vision sooner:
- Treating my blog as a business from day 1
- Monetizing from day 1
- Not leaving my blogging business behind to focus too much on online courses and launching products (which I did in the past 2 years)
- Learning how to manage my money better
- Working on my money mindset from the beginning
- Not following trends
- Not wasting too much time on social media
- Repurposing content more often
- Setting boundaries
What has been the best part of starting a remote business?
All the types of freedom it provides. I talk about all of them here, and here I explain how I structure my life for maximum freedom.
What platform/tools do you use for your business?
My blog is built with WordPress. Luckily, that’s the content management system I used from day one. My web host is WPX hosting.
For email marketing, I use ConvertKit. My online course platform (and where I host my membership and community Fearless Bloggers) is Podia.
The podcast is hosted on Blubrry.
My favorite design tool is Canva, and project management tool – Asana.
What have been the most influential books, networking groups, podcasts, or other resources you’ve found?
I used to be a big reader, but now I’m more of a podcast listener. When I find a specific entrepreneur to learn from though, I consume any content they create.
That’s the case with James Wedmore. I’m a fan of his podcast – the Mind Your Business podcast, and am enrolled in his signature program Business by Design. Lately, I’m also listening to the Niche Pursuits podcast.
I like Alex Hormozi’s books $100M Offers and $100M Leads.
Advice for other entrepreneurs who want to build a remote business of their dreams?
Master your emotions.
Manage your triggers.
Keep your vision in mind no matter what.
When things get hard, that’s when you’re tested the most to see whether you’re made to be in business or only choose entrepreneurship when it’s convenient for you and working well.
Are there any positions or internships you’re hiring for right now?
It’s a solo business and I’m not looking to outsource anything.
